Product Description
Poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(lactic acid) (PEG(350)-b-PLA(300)) is an amphiphilic diblock copolymer composed of a hydrophilic PEG block (350Da) and a biodegradable, hydrophobic PLA block (300 Da). This structure enables self-assembly into micelles or nanoparticles, making it useful for controlled release formulations. Polymers of this type are insoluble in water but degrade by hydrolytic attack on their ester bonds. This degradation can be mediated by selective choice of comonomers such as ethylene glycol which enhance the penetration of water and rate of hydrolysis.
Polysciences offers several MW variants of PEG-b-PLA which will further enable researchers to fine tune their applications.
Applications:
Drug Delivery Systems: Forms micelles or nanoparticles for controlled delivery of hydrophobic drugs.
Biomedical Hydrogels: Used in injectable hydrogel formulations for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
Biodegradable Coatings: Provides tunable degradation rates for sustained-release coatings.
Surface Modification: Enhances biocompatibility and reduces protein adsorption on biomaterial surfaces.
