Poly(tert-butyl methacrylate)

Poly(tert-butyl methacrylate) (PtBMA) is a hydrophobic, high-Tg polymer with excellent thermal stability and chemical resistance. The bulky tert-butyl side group provides steric hindrance, reducing chain interactions and enhancing solubility in organic solvents.
Decomposes thermally to poly(methacrylic acid).

Applications:

Protective Coatings: Used in heat- and solvent-resistant coatings.
Lithography & Photoresists: Functions as a sacrificial polymer in semiconductor processing.
Polymer Synthesis: Used as a precursor to poly(methacrylic acid) in hydrolyzable systems.
