Product Description

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) is a water-soluble synthetic polymer derived from polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) via hydrolysis. The degree of hydrolysis determines its solubility, crystallinity, and hydrogen bonding potential, making PVA highly versatile in both industrial and biomedical applications. It features excellent film-forming ability, chemical resistance, biocompatibility, and mechanical strength, which makes it a preferred material for coatings, adhesives, hydrogels, and packaging films. Additionally, its ability to form strong intermolecular hydrogen bonds enhances moisture retention and structural integrity, making it useful for applications requiring controlled permeability and water interaction.
Higher hydrolysis grade products require progressively more energy to dissolve because of their greater degree of crystallinity.
